Nocturne in Blue and Gold by Whistler (figure 4.34) and The Scream by Munch (figure 4.35).
Compare: Nocturne in Blue and Gold and The Scream are alike in that they both use color to add emotion to their paintings. The sceneries are also very similar they both have a bridge of some sort, a person, and show the water and sky.
Contrast: Nocturne in Blue and Gold and The Scream are very different in the emotions you feel when looking at both painting. Nocturne in Blue and Gold is more clam, and peaceful as there are lights and fireworks while the scream is more dark and the man looks as if he scared and he has his ears covered like he’s in distress. One reason both painting come across this way because the colors are different. In the one there

The second painting by Lowry is called Marine Phoenix. Like Welgatim’s song, this painting is also an acrylic on canvas, but it was created in the year of 1999. Both paintings include the Native American heritage, but what separates them both is that one artwork tends to show a better visual explanation of the story behind it than the other artwork. Even though both artworks are remarkable, the artwork of Welgatim’s song tends to show more particulars than the Marine Phoenix because of…

The same intense contrast of reds and greens that were so essential in The Night Cafe were also used in Street, Dresden as a way to create an uncomfortable and sickly feeling, especially when the olive green was added to some of the faces in the painting. Similar yellows were used in both paintings as well. The bright yellow color of the man’s suit in Van Gogh’s piece is extremely similar to the jacket and the petticoat of one of the women in Kirchner’s piece. Both paintings depict a feeling of isolation, depression, discomfort, and anguish. This is done through the use of intense color palettes, isolation of figures, and expressions of the figures.…

The two paintings I chose to compare and contrast were Le Dejeuner sur l’herbe and The Birth of Venus. Both paintings were created in different time periods. Le Dejeuner sur l’herbe was created in 1862-1863 by Èdouard Manet. The Birth of Venus was created in 1484-1486 by Sandro Botticelli. When you look at both paintings there are many similarities you can point out just by looking at them.…

Indeed the most striking difference is the different nature of the work: Delacroix’s one being a painting on a canvas, is a two dimensional work and Wall’s final piece, even if the photographic medium was used, is a three dimensional transparency lightbox. The space that they use in an exhibition room and the effect on the viewer is consequently different, the painting using a light that comes from an outside source and the lightbox giving ‘birth’ to its own light. These differences are mainly a consequence of the techniques and materials used, (that are strongly) affected by the era they were made in. But the narrative of the works of art are different as well: The Death of Sardanapalus teems with figures (16 living) and an action of destruction is depicted; The Destroyed Room has not even one character, it is a still life, the trace left by a violent action. This are the impressions after a first glance.…

I chose to write on the topic of Johnson’s Negro Life in the South and Homer’s A Visit from the Old Mistress. As stated in the prompt for this, both paintings are open to vastly different interpretations, all of which concern proslavery and antislavery. To start with, the first painting, Johnson’s Negro Life in the South, depicts a run down house surrounded by black people looking like they are having a great time.…

Some similarities of “Guernica” and “Liberty Leading the People” are part of their composition, they’re both based on the subject of war and the focus point is mid-right of the paintings. Neither of these paintings have a lot of depth but “Liberty Leading the People” has a little bit. Both are showing dead bodies in the foreground. Parts of the mood are similar as well, it’s all dark and dreary in both…

The two paintings are similar in the point that they both have implied depth to a certain degree. Raphael uses the figures in his work to give the appearance of distance between them in the foreground and background. Durand uses scenery in the foreground to make the figures seem as if they are farther back in the painting. Raphael uses one-point perspective, while Durand uses aerial perspective.…

They both used texture in the same way and it definitely attracted people. Constable and Burchfield used tons of movement and everyone looked at every part of the painting. Francis de Goya painted two similar pictures that tell extremely different messages. In his chalk piece a women is holding what seems to be her lover mournfully. The man seems to on the verge of death, his lover is holding him up. I think this symbolizes the women not willing to let her husband move on, that she does not have fate in what will happen after death. Contrarily, in Francis de Goya’s water colour piece it appears to be the same man and women but in a different context.…

Casablanca is considered to be one of the greatest films of all time, and it’s not hard to see why. Coming at a time when the world needed it most, the film brings comedy and romance to a dark situation. It is often considered a noir film because if this darkness, but it’s lightheartedness, along with other elements, keeps it from falling into the gloomy genre. Released only a year apart, Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon share multiple commonalities, which fuels the debate over whether or not Casablanca is a noir film. The most obvious similarity between the two is the three actors who star in both films, Humphrey Bogart, Peter Lorre, and Sydney Greenstreet.…

Pablo Picasso: The Tragedy In Picasso’s “The Tragedy,” he used several different techniques to create the visual elements in the painting. The three figures, carefully drawn, and the use of contour lines help shape their bodies and show the deep thought in their faces. The color used in the painting was mainly shades of blue. The beach is a greenish blue, set against the pale blue sea, the sky is a darkened dusky blue, bringing a cold, emptiness to the piece. It is as if you were looking at the painting wearing spectacles with blue colored lenses.…

Have you ever contemplated that something may be so close yet so far? As such saying that goes by, “Good from far, far from good.” Truth be told, this is in fact in unity with what is Poetry and the Visual Arts. Therefore, the two are something that you can value, you can feel within yourself and understand more than life itself even if you don 't have it at arm 's length. Poetry could have its many controversies and its meanings between being deep, life touching, mind consuming and realistic.…

The firs similarity that can be seen is the location of both pieces. They are both located in The Audrey Jones Beck Building of the Houston Museum of Fine arts. This building exhibits galleries from ancient art, Erupean art, photography, prints and drawings. Both works share the same color scheme and textures. The use of browns and nude colors by the artists make these two works to look as they were from the same culture and era.…

Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart shows the apparent ways that Joseph Conrad and Chinua Achebe differ in ways of presenting Africa in the colonization era. Conrad and Achebe books shows the difference between an Afrocentric and Eurocentric viewpoint. Joseph Conrad’s depictions of the Africans as savages an in a very racist undertone causes Chinua Achebe to write Things Fall Apart through the viewpoint of the natives of different tribes to show Africans, not as uncivilized savages, but as members of a very hierarchy society that is not too much different from the Europeans. One way Conrad’s views about Europeans to make the look as if they were higher beings to the African tribes was in his description of Marlow.…
