Comparing My Nutrition

1) Overall, I had numerous nutrients that I was excessive or deficient in. The main nutrients that I am in excesses in that stuck out to me are protein, calcium, and sodium. Looking at the Intake and DRI Goals compared, it says that protein is 145%. I had a total intake of 84.05 grams compared to the recommended, which were 58.06. Before looking at my results I never thought that I ate enough protein for someone who is relatively active. I ate about 30 grams more than needed for my body, which seems to be a lot. The only protein substance that is consistent in my everyday diet is grilled chicken, which is served in small portions. Calcium was another nutrient that I was excessive in according to the Intake and DRI compared. This surprised me because when I think of calcium, I think of dairy foods like fortified milk and cheese, which I tend to stay away from in my average day. The custom report states that my DRI for calcium is 1000mg, and I consumed 1410.04mg, with a percentage of 141%. The last nutrient that stood out to me that I was excessive in was sodium. My DRI for sodium is 1500mg, and over the 3 days I consumed …show more content…
I consider myself an active person, trying to be at the gym at least 4 days a week. If I do not go to the gym, I still am walking all around campus and up and downstairs each time I walk into buildings. I aim to eat a variety of foods, including different types of vegetables and fruits each day. For example, if I grab an apple for a morning snack I will make sure that I will have a different kind of fruit for my afternoon snack so I have that variety in my daily diet such as a clementine or banana. I do limit my salt intake; I tend to stay away from adding extra salt to my food at the table. Shown on my Intake and DRI goals compared I have a high intake of each vitamin that many Americans are often low in, Vitamin D and calcium for

I ate too much protein foods like fish, meat and eggs, which made my percentage on protein ninety-nine which is more than the recommended intake. Though the body use protein to provide structural and mechanical support and maintaining the body’s tissues to create enzymes and hormones and helping maintain acid-based and fluid balance, too much of protein can cause diseases like osteoporosis, kidney failure, kidney failure, gout, and possibly certain cancers. I was very low in vitamins A, which I took only twenty percent of the recommended amount. I did not eat enough food like sweet potatoes, carrots, dark leafy greens, lettuce, dried apricots, cantaloupe and tropical fruits, which are rich in vitamin A. Even though my skin is not free from acne and having a problem with my eyes, I know eating more foods rich in vitamin A can enhance the turnover of my skin cells and inhibit the formation of acne.…

I considered that since I spend three to four hours a day on the ball field sweating and exercising, the foods I eat does not truly have a negative effect on my body, which is where I went wrong.…
