Comparing My Name Is Asher Lev 'And The Sculptor'

The Path to Success People have different views and perceptions on how they think they could succeed in life. Some people think they need to force opportunities to come their way, while others think they should let the opportunities come on their own. Some are optimistic, and some are pessimistic. In the stories “My Name Is Asher Lev” by Aaron Posner and “The Sculptor” by Scott McCloud, we can see how that is true. Asher Lev and David Smith both succeed in their art goals, but Asher’s views on accomplishing them are more optimistic than David’s in terms of his recognition and self confidence. Firstly, Asher and David both find success in their art goals, but Asher has a further optimistic view point on his recognition than David does about his. Asher does not wish or try hard to make his art seen by the public. His whole life consisted of painting images that he never made for others and he only started to expose his art when the opportunity came to him. As David tries hard to make his art seen, Asher is going with the flow and letting his art be seen when the time comes and doesn’t worry about the future. David is also not entirely confident in himself initially to make his art work seen by people. Asher on the other hand, is very self-confident no matter what negativity people think. Both arguments show that Asher is more optimistic than David, although they both succeed. Although Asher and David both succeeded in their art goals in their individual ways, it is not only the success that matters; it’s the attitudes that got them there.
