Comparing My Accomplishments

Decent Essays
I believe that my level of mental and physical fitness has helped me to meet and exceed my goals associated with my accomplishments as many of those accomplishments are related to improving and supporting my mental and physical well-being. For example, some of my accomplishments include my ARCT (Associate of The Royal Conservatory of Music) in piano performance, level 10 violin, black belt in taekwondo, grade 8 ballet, etc. I believe that these accomplishments have not only provided me with a sense of achievement but they have also helped to keep my body and mind in a healthy and responsive state. To add, music was a way in which I was able to escape my stress and focus my energy on something other than school work. In terms of dance and taekwondo,

    The Achievement Gap

The achievement gap between rich and poor children extends little by little, and there is not an easy solution to close it. Our society sustains the idea that there must be a division of social classes. This is evident in the way the neighborhoods in large cities are constructed. The rich are secluded in the hills, while the poor live in the communities with factories and liquor stores on every corner. The social construct in the United States is to be blamed for this gap because it allows for children to receive different resources and quality of education, by allowing private education schools and not allowing children to attend schools that are not in their neighborhood of residence.…

    The Achievement Gap

The achievement gap in many schools today is not a new concept or concern. In recent years, school districts have worked aimlessly to narrow or eliminate achievement gaps in classrooms across America, yet are seeing little if any positive increase. There is a large achievement gap in the area of children of color and white children in many schools. Unfortunately, this educational concern dates back to World War I, and we still battle in equality and funding of schools. “Funding schools as if all populations face the same problems and had the same needs is an equally ineffective means of addressing the achievement gap” (Gardner, 2007, p. 543).…

It seemed as if I would cause mayhem every time I moved a muscle. I never could find a way to stay idle. Although I was given the opportunity to expose myself to different sports, there was also the issue of exposing myself to different injuries.…

In dance, you learn quickly that without pure dedication and drive you will never be successful. While talent can come naturally, skill and technique only come with hard work. I spent countless hours in dance studios growing up, working tirelessly to hone these skills and perfect technique. A lifetime of dance taught me what it means to have discipline and dedication to a craft, values which I have also seen reflected in my clinical experiences. Medicine is a practice which calls for just as much discipline, dedication, and drive.…

I started my journey in health and fitness at a young age. I was always one of those kids who just could not sit still - so I was into everything, climbing trees, riding bikes, swimming, sports, you name it I was into it. However my discipline to this way of life came when I discovered basketball, it was when I was about 13/14 and shot up to practically the height I am now, so my teachers said why don't you try and develop your skills as a basketball player as I was taller than most of my teachers at 13 which lead them to think I'd grow to be some kind of 7 foot giant, but unfortunately that didn't happen, would've been cool though.…
