Mercutio v.s Tybalt

Is it possible for characters to be alike and different at the same time? In William Shakespeare's The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Mercutio and Tybalt absolutely loathe each other. These two individuals have drastically hot tempers, extremely facetious attitudes and terrifically loyal mentalities. Even with their shared qualities, they have a few differences. The first difference between these characters would be how they display their traits; even though these traits are similar they have different ways of flaunting them. The second difference would be how severely they impact the ending of this play. Their impacts are different, but also alike just as their personalities are. These characters that are so greatly the same but also so different play an enormous parts in the outcome of this play.
Mercutio and Tybalt’s characteristics and actions contribute to turning points that make this play a ‘tragedy’. In the play Mercutio states: “O

Mercutio is one of the reasons that Romeo and Juliet ever meet in the first place. On their way to the party Mercutio urges Romeo to go to the party when he begins to have doubts and misgivings in regards to attending. Also, Mercutio's death caused Tybalt's; his death is the reason that Romeo decides to fight Tybalt and kill him which causes a domino effect of events. Though Tybalt may not effect the play as much as Mercutio he does affect it in some ways. One way that Tybalt affects the play is by continuing to persuade Romeo to fight even after he says he does not want to. Romeo’s refusal causes Mercutio to fight Tybalt. Tybalt's death is also the reason the Romeo gets banished from Verona. If Romeo would not of been banished many of the events in the play would not of happened. Mercutio is an interesting character. But, a major reason why Mercutio takes part of the blame for the tragedy is his tendency to take risks, or more specifically, the fact that Mercutio decided to partake in a feast held by the Montagues greatest enemy. Although many could argue that this was Benvolio’s idea, it must not be forgotten that Benvolio is the only character in the book that can reason maturely, therefore Benvolio would have eventually changed his mind once he realizes the consequences or risks. But, then there is Mercutio, he openly goes to disregard Romeo’s…

In Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, the cause of Mercutio's death can be attributed to the circumstances that surrounded the two families. The friction between the Capulets and Montague's family environments was quite a hostile one which supported multiple violent acts. Before Mercutio died, his last few words were, “A plague a’ both your houses!”(A3.S1.L108). Rather than blaming Tybalt for his death, Mercutio put a curse on both the Capulet and Montague houses. The emotional conflict between the families certainly played a dominant role in the death of Mercutio.…

When Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo fights and kills Tybalt out of anger for Tybalt and pity for Mercutio. Many of the characters act the same in the play and the movie giving a good representation of the play. Someone who watches the movie and does not read the play might get that Romeo is very moody and irrational, which is also shown throughout the play because of Romeo’s rash decisions. The play includes a large fight between Mercutio and Tybalt before both of them die, Mercutio first by Tybalt and then Tybalt by Romeo. In the play, Romeo fights Tybalt after Tybalt kills Mercutio just like in the movie, the Prince can be quoted speaking to the town’s people, “Where are the vile beginners of this fray?” (III.i.135).…

So Mercutio protects him by insulting Tybalt by saying “O calm, dishonourable, vile submission” then goes on to say, with a now drawn sword “Tybalt you rat catcher, will you walk” which is a question of a duel. Mercutio doing this is a great act of loyalty toward Romeo. Mercutio’s death by Tybalt adds to his heroic services to Romeo.
