Comparing Mcdonald's Advertisements And Childhood Obesity

Improved Essays
After looking at these two very contradicting advertisements right next to each other on this wall, it’s easy to tell that childhood obesity is not taken seriously enough. Reasons to back this up are how they often make advertisements for unhealthy food too appealing to children, they make unhealthy foods look/sound too beneficial for the public, and there are many more advertisements for unhealthy foods than there are for childhood obesity awareness.

Advertisement #1 is for Mcdonald’s fast food, it has a woman on it smiling with two Mcdonald’s bags in her hands with “my kinda shoppin’ spree” next to her in large white letters. All the way to the right it has images of some of Mcdonalds’ foods next to the Dollar Menu logo. The background color

The light green background and the bright yellow Mcdonald’s logo really help the ad. do so. The woman they have on there smiling is placed in the middle of the ad. and looks very uncommonly happy about the McDonald’s she picked up to help the whole gist of the advertisement seem like it will benefit to you as a person to eat McDonald’s.

Advertisement #2 is very contradictive to the first ad. Instead of a McDonald’s logo it has a logo that says under it “EAT FRUITS & VEGETABLES AND BE ACTIVE.” Also, the advertisement has written on it, “Childhood obesity, don’t take it lightly.” The ad. has a dark blue background to it, and there is also a woman on it who appears to work at a hospital, but she has a concerned/caring expression to her instead. On the bottom the ad. says “Food Stamps can help,” and also has a number for anyone to call to see if they qualify for food stamps.

Advertisement #2 is without a doubt meant to have quite the opposite effect on people than advertisement #1. You can see how different the marketing schemes are for both of these ad’s. Ad. #2 is a lot darker and more serious, and is meant to catch the attention of the public to aware them of childhood obesity, to eat healthy, to be active & to call for food stamps if eligible/neccessary. Advertisement #2 is very bold & dark, but has a bright message to

Super Bowl advertisements are famous for their elaborate productions and are often are more talked about than the event itself. These commercials have become cultural touchstones, but the advertisements have one job and that is to convince a potential customer to buy or use a company’s product or service. The Weight Watchers advertisement is a perfect example of how effective advertisements can be in only a few short seconds. What this commercial is really selling underneath its veneer of supposed helpfulness is emotional manipulation as it preys on people’s insecurities regarding their weight and shame them for eating food that may not be considered healthy. The primary audience for this kind of ad are people who emotionally vulnerable and…

Visual Analysis Outline “CDC: Tips From Former Smokers” is the ad that really seemed the most powerful to me. This ad uses persuasive reasoning and methods to effectively push smokers to put an end to their small but deadly addictions. The commercial uses the famous speech that first introduced the problem of smoking and what it does to our health. It also uses facts to support their perspective towards this problem. The ad tries to relate even more to the audience by presenting a real smoker that was diagnosed with cancer, which took her life.…

Obesity is a medical term used by doctors to describe a patient who is over the recommended body weight, in this case the patient is a child. Many Americans know that obesity is an issue that is slowly but surely killing our nation, but rather than taking a stand they remain unmoved by this epidemic. Wallace Nelson, an American chiropractor, wrote in his article Making a Difference: Childhood Obesity, “Childhood obesity rates have more than tripled since 1980” and that’s a problem. It should be no surprise that nowadays we have such a thing as childhood obesity, when we have a McDonalds around every corner. Obesity has been one of the leading causes to over a hundred health related issues ranging from strokes, multiple heart issues, diabetes,…
