It very much stood out to me that many of the people in Joseph’s village were extremely poor, although the women wore what appeared to be decently expensive clothing. This makes me think that women were held in a higher standard than usual, although they were treated almost like slaves in that location and time period. Also, Joseph, after being very distrusting of Mary’s story of the angel, is easily convinced and gives his all in order to get Mary to Bethlehem.
