In Adele Reinhartz’ Jesus of Hollywood, many biblical characters are discussed, along with the different gospels that the stories stem from, and how these characters are depicted in several films. Mary, the mother of Jesus, is one character in which Reinhartz analyzes in the works of many films. The depiction and portrayal of Mary can be closely analyzed in three films, Pasolini’s The Gospel According to St. Mattew, DeMille’s The King of Kings, and Rosallini’s The Messiah. Each film depicts Mary in a different way, and gathers information from different gospels to tell her story. This claim is evident throughout the Gospel of Matthew and in The Parable of the Ten Virgins, as Matthew would constantly “persuade the reader to emulate their example” (Achtemeier 662). The Parable of the Ten Virgins symbolizes God’s Parousia during the eschaton. Matthew conveys a moral to his readers, indicating that those of the Church who are prepared for Jesus’ second arrival will be saved, and those who are not will suffer.…

While both paintings feature the same biblical figures in similar fashion, Raphael’s rendering takes on a brighter and lighter tonality and clearer disposition unlike Da Vinci’s more sullen, hazy, and darker painting.
