What’s the world like the day after you leave it physically? Will your haters still hate on you? Will the ones who once didn’t have a nice word to say about you, praise you at your funeral? Will they care now that you are gone? Many scholars including film director Alfred Hitchcock argue that characters are more important dead than alive and I agree with this statement. It takes death for people to care about you even though it is much too late. Therefore this shows that gratitude is much stronger than regret. After death people receive more gratitude and are more important than when they were alive in literary works, such as in Macbeth, Diary of Anne frank, A Raisin in the Sun, and in life itself. People miss out on the opportunity to show their gratitude to people while they have the chance and as a result they are filled with regrets. Once they realize that they should’ve shown their gratitude it is much too late. Regret is the feeling of sadness or guilt. People care more after you pass away because regret is stronger than gratitude. Regret doesn’t change the past but it changed people’s attitudes. The feelings of regret compels people to keep others name alive and care now that they are 6 feet under. After committing the murder of King Duncan Macbeth begins to show some feelings of regret as he states, “I'll go no more. I am afraid to think what I have done, look on't again I dare not" (Act 2, Scene 2). Macbeth is reflecting on his actions and stating he wouldn’t repeat those actions. In other words, Macbeth is beginning to regret his actions so much that he is afraid to think about them. As a sign of regret for example, people will give flowers after someone’s their death. In addition Anne Frank states, “Dead people receive more flowers than the living because regret is stronger than gratitude”. Anne Frank was a typical Jewish girl living during the Holocaust, but her name blew up years after her death when her journal was discovered and turned into a book/movie. The dead can’t appreciate the flowers like the living can. They can’t smell, see, or touch the flowers like the
