Through close comparison and analyzation, we can identify that both of these works reveal a similar theme of the struggles of love. For instance, it says in the book: “Afraid that when you have her all alone, you lose all.” ( Rostand pg. 100) This quote is showing how Cyrano is worried about losing the heart of Roxane, causing him to become self conscious and anxious. In the poem, it states: “That I would fear, not clasped hand in hand with thee.” (Tennyson line 9) Similar to Cyrano, the speaker obviously worries that he would not “be loved as he desires to be,” which leads to mixed feelings of joy and courage to sadness and anxiety.
