One comparison between the 1990 movie and the novel, is that the conch was definitely not as significant in the movie, whereas, in the novel, it held and represented a very strong idea: civilization. In the novel, the theme and mood is very dark and angsty, whereas the movie is not portrayed as darkly. A certain scene in the storyline that was not as scary and dark in the movie as it was in the book, was Simon’s murder. In the story, it is very dreadful and a scary scene, describing with great detail how atrocious the actual murder was, but since the Lord of the Flies was not as much as a symbol of fear in the movie, it was not as much of an abhorrent event.
