The novel Lord of the Flies written by William Golding and the essay "My Graduation Speech" written by Neil Postman share the same characteristics in the two group Postman calls "spiritual ancestors". The similarities between Ralph's group and the Athenians; Jack' tribe and the Visigoths; and Ralph and Jack show signs of the opposite group. First, Lord of the Flies and "My Graduation Speech" are similar because Ralph and his group relate to the Athenians, established by that Athenians and a member form Ralph's group, Piggy are both knowledgeable, such as in, "I've been thinking' he said 'about a clock. We could make a sundial. We could put a stick in the sand. and then-" (pg 67, par 9).
