Descartes believes that the existence and nature of an external object is that an existing thing needs nothing but its self in order to exist. We do not perceive the substances but just its properties in which make up the substance. He also says that we are made up of mathematics and thus so are the object that exists proving the existence of the external object.
Spinoza believes that everything has a reason to exist and there does not have to be a cause because the object its self gives it self-cause. An external object must exist as it is made up of monads thus it is impossible for it not to exist.
