Jealousy to Murder Love can be full of wonderful things, but love can also lead to jealousy and cause one to make unacceptable decisions. In “Lamb To the Slaughter” by Roald Dahl, and in “The Lady or the Tiger” by Frank R. Stockton, the lesson learned by the reader is love can make one do terrible decisions. Both Mary and Princess killed someone they loved due to jealousy, jealousy making one do things they shouldn’t do. They were both jealous and could not accept the fact that they were going to lose their lovers. Despite the fact, Mary and Princess both made decisions to kill someone due to jealousy, however Mary did not premeditate her killing while Princess did. Maloney when Princess did plan to kill her lover. Right when Mr. Maloney had told Mary about the divorce, she thought she was imaging things, as if he had not said a thing. She then moments later realizes what he had said, she gets out of the shock and reality hits her. Mary then “... simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head” (Dahl 4). Before the quote, Mary was not thinking, she had thought that her husband had not said a word. Mary was in a state of shock, she thought she was hallucinating. She did not know what she was doing until after she it and killed her husband. Her decision (killing her husband) led to her staging as if someone kill her husband and not her. Her motivation for covering up her crime was she was pregnant, and because she is pregnant she was in a delicate state as well. Therefore, she was not lucid while she was on the verge of killing. She did not think of her consequences she just killed as if nothing. On the other hand, Princess is the opposite of Mary because Princess premeditated what she was going to do. Princess knew what was going on, she knew that her lover could end up in anothers woman’s hands. Princess’s thoughts were rushing through her head. As she explains her premeditation on what she chose for her lover, not explicitly stating it. Princess thought, “Her decisions had been indicted in an instant, but it had been made after days of anguished deliberation. She had known she would be asked, she had decided what she would answer, and, without slightest hesitation, she moved her hand to the right” (Stockton 4).
