Joseph and Divine Providence "Such a dazzling coat of many colors." If there's one thing people remember about the story of Joseph, it's that he had a colorful coat that created a rift between himself and his brother. Throughout the story of Jacob and his 11 brothers, God guides Joseph with divine providence to help him end up where he belongs. Joseph would face many hardships along his way to achieving God's fulfilling plan, but luckily Joseph had faith that God would assist him. Joseph's story of divine providence displays that God has a plan for us all that we may not recognize until later in our lives or until heaven. Joseph shows courage in facing the difficulties he has to face in order to succeed God's plan for him. God has uses …show more content…
At the beginning of the musical, Joseph had a dream about 11 sheaves of corn bowing down to Joseph's sheaf of corn and another dream that 11 stars bowed down to Joseph's star. This was God showing early on in the story that Joseph's brothers would one day bow to him. Another way divine providence was shown was that Joseph was able to correctly predict the butler's and baker's dreams. God guided Joseph so he was able to do this, and Joseph being able to do this helped Joseph later. Since Joseph could predict dreams, the Pharaoh asked him for help after learning of him through the butler. God again guided Joseph to deciphering the Pharaoh's dreams. Joseph's ability to analyze dreams made him respected by all of Egypt for saving them from starvation and famine. God also guided Joseph's brothers to Egypt where they eventually bowed down to him. God had guided Joseph to where he ended up which was God's plan for him. Joseph had to wait a long time to see what God's plan for him was, and although God didn't lead Joseph in ways that Joseph wanted, in the end everything worked out for …show more content…
Joseph trusted God very much although he was facing many hardships. At the beginning, Joseph didn't display much knowledge that he knew what God was doing with his life except that he was destined for a little more, which he found out through his dreams where 11 stars or sheaves of corn were bowing down to him. Joseph later on sings, "Close every door to me." He means that God can do whatever He wants to Joseph because Joseph knows that God will always guide him through whatever God gives Joseph to struggle through. Joseph also sings, "Children of Israel are never alone." Joseph recognized that he wasn't alone and that God was always there for him. Joseph also showed a little knowledge of what he was going to receive once God had guided him to where he was going because he sang, "For we have been promised a land of our own." The narrator develops the theme of providence by giving us hints of what was to come for Joseph because she sang, "We've read the book, and you come out on top." She is also seen later in the musical with the Bible in her hand. The narrator helps us realize that God is always there for Joseph and his story will turn out okay because she explains how he will make it out of every situation and how God has helped
