For starters they are or were both great workers. Candy refers to his dog as being one of the best sheep dogs ever. George says that Lenny is “sure a hell of a good worker.” (Steinback 26) However like many things they can be great forever and eventually lose all their strength. This is what happened to Candy’s dog. It got to a point where the dog was just dragging candy down and carlson shot the dog. Also both Lennie and Candy’s dog are both companions. They might not be the smartest people in the world but there loyal, kind and in these cases great workers. Without Candy’s dog and George Lennie and Candy probably wouldn’t have anyone. Then they would just be like all the other workers. “With us it ain't like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us.” (stenback 27). He is saying that they have each other no matter what and that there not like everybody else. This shows how much they care about each other and how much they need each other just like Candy needed his
