Comparing Joe-Boy And Vinny

Have you ever been to a ravine jumping off a cliff were a boy just died? Vinny and Joe-Boy are both characters in a story called the “The Ravine”. They’re best friends who live in Hawaii and and go to a ravine to cliff jump and swim. There was a boy who died there two weeks and one day before they arrived. Joe-Boy and Vinny are different in many ways and they are similar in some ways. One of Vinny’s character traits is that Vinny is afraid of heights. “He couldn't imagine what it must feel like if you are afraid of heights like he is.” This quote shows that VInny is afraid of heights. More importantly Vinny said he is weak. The author wrote Vinny is weak because he can't stand up to his friends. He doesn't want to go to the rave and …show more content…
Joe-Boy is boastful about the way he jumped.On page 9, Joe-Boy says watch how a man jumps. “Vinny watch how a man does it.”.Although Joe-Boy is excited to go to the reven Vinny is not. One example from the text is Joe-Boy laughs when Vinny smeared mud all over his towle. Joe-Boy cepes joking around laughing wall walking into and through the reven. Joe-Boy is surely a leader because his friends do what he tell them to do. After I read page 7, It sowed that Joe-Boy was the leader. “ You goin to let you mommy run your life, or what.” Although they have many differences they still have similar character traits. They are both 15 years old and are boys. In the story it says “All fifteen.” They are both Hawaiian. They both talk in slang. For example, Vinny says, “You don't cut it out, Joe-Boy, I goin... I goin...” Joe-Boy says, “You prob’ly stepping right where his foot was.” This dialect shows that both boys live in the same region.
Joe-Boy and Vinny are in many ways similar, yet are still very different.Vinny is weak. Joe-Boy is boastful. Even though they have many differences, they are both friends. Although, Joe-Boy is controlling, Vinny finds that standind up to his friends brings him
