Comparing Jackson And The Lottery

Decent Essays
The stories we reed were all interesting in their own way. Some were a little scary all had a twist to each story. There is a story of a wear wolf. A story of an old lottery. A story of a goldfish who granted someone’s wishes that were good wishes. There was a story of a girl who was friends with another girl and was forced to be enemy’s.

The Goldfish story is about a man who finds that his goldfish can grant wishes. Now some of us would wish for money power anything we want. But not the man in the story he wished for things to help other people. He wished for someone with cancer to get healed. He also wished a boy with poor brain development to get normal brain development. The wishes show this man want everyone

At the beginning you know something is up because of the tone. The middle tells more. His children are scared of him the mother is very concerned at that point she knows something’s up. When I first reed it I knew something was up by the tone of the story. The tone is a scared tone and serious tone. The lottery story is about the lottery in a small village. We don’t know where it is what the name is or the year. It tells that everyone participates in the lottery. And some villages have so many people it takes 3 days to do the lottery. But in this one it takes 2-3 hours to do the lottery. They acted surprised that a stone was found in the box.

In conclusion I think all these stories are great stories to read. They all have very good plots. They had me asking question like the werewolf story I was asking my self a bunch question’s about the man. The goldfish story was my favorite because it talks about a guy who has a magic goldfish that grants wishes and he wished for a kid with cancer to get better and 2 more wishes that people wouldn’t wish for usually. And finally the Lottery story was a good one though I’m still asking why the people who were in charge of the lottery in the story acted suppressed when a stone was found. In conclusion these story’s were very good to read and I would recommend them to a

The Box Owns Life Potential danger is critical to the building of suspense in “The Lottery”. Before the lottery, the villagers seem nervous of the black box and the lottery in general, which bestows their fear of the consequences of the lottery. When the black box and stool is brought out, “The villagers kept their distance, leaving a space between themselves and the stool, [and] there was a hesitation before two men [...] came forward to hold the box steady on the stool…” (Jackson 1). Even before the lottery occurs, two men are afraid of touching the lottery box and stool.…

My favorite story of this year was “The Treasure of Lemon Brown”. The reason why it was my favorite was because it shows us how something that costs nothing and looks bad could be so valuable to someone and how it means something important to one. The genre of this story is short story. The charters in the story are Lemon Brown, Greg, Greg’s dad, and the robbers that tried to steal Lemon Brown’s treasure. In the story the robber says “Where’s his gold?…

Serendipity “The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way” is the dictionary definition of serendipity. Many people’s lives are changed for the better because of serendipitous moments. For example, a chance meeting in a coffee shop could find you face to face with your true love. Being in the right place at the right time can change the course of one’s life. However, being in the wrong place at the wrong time can create a life of chaos, or even the tragic, and inexplicable ending of lives.…

I feel that the story, “The Girl Who Drank the Moon” has many of the same characteristics that are found in fairy tales. For example many fairy tales have magical elements and characters that are witches. Most fairy tales have evil and good characters, and animals that talk. Fairy tales also have a clearly defined problem and something happens within a group, it could be characters or events. I found all of these elements in this story, “The Girl Who Drank the Moon.”…

Julius Lester used irony to show that a smaller opponent can “out wit” a bigger opponent. In the first story a rabbit made a lion think that a storm was coming and to run away. Then the rabbit said to tie himself to the tree . And then the lion found out he tricked him. And roared loud enough that the “earth shook”.…

There are several things that I liked about the story, from the actual content to the word choice and sentence structure. I really liked how Phillips said “my visit to Africa proved less of a homecoming than an affirmation of my Americanness.” I felt the same way in 2009 when I returned to my homeland, Moldova. I immigrated to the US when I was five years old and had little memory of Moldova. Even though I lived in the USA for six years, and was going to continue living here for the rest of my life, I still did not consider myself an American. 2009 was the first time I was going back to my home country after moving to the United States.…

First of all I am indignant at such an unreasonable practice. No matter the young man is thief or not, people cannot decide someone’s fate by their own perspective. To punishment an offender by murder or burn is absurdly. In the story the young man not even has a chance to clarify himself but people in the village were really for lynching, this event without any real proof or trial. I would like to say the Go back to the Jackson’s lottery there were some similarities in the story, no one speaks up, even though they did it wrong, people decide someone’s fate by their own perspective and the child is the most influenced group in both story.…

Passing down Passion. I love listening and watching people read to me. The way the words flow out of their mouths, and how they interpret the story. Changing their voices to match the different characters, the way you can see their emotions entangle in the story, it takes you to the world which the author skilfully made, and it takes them there too. In my earliest memories mum would read to me, no matter how many times we read the same book, same story and same adventure she would never fail to deliver the best story.…

One thing that I learned about these topics was that the Boy Scouts of America changed their application policy to allow transgender boys to apply for the Boy Scouts because of Joe. While the struggle for equality for transgender individuals and other members of the LGBTQIA community continues, the recent change in policy to allow transgender boys to apply for the Boy Scouts is a huge stepping stone and landmark for present and future transgender boys looking to enter the Boy Scouts. Another thing that I learned from the podcast was the struggles of the LGBTQIA community in El Salvador and how the gangs in country are rivals with the military. According to the podcast, men in the El Salvadoran army are endangered because they are “enemies”…
