The Outsiders' book and the film, both have similarities as well as differences.Seeing and reading them both they are quite the same. I have had time to break them down and find some noticeable differences. The book and novel both have similarities. For instance, they both start at the drive in.They both start with the same people and at the same place.Dally gives Ponyboy and Johnny a gun and some money. He gave them these items because they were on the run. There are lots more similarities , but there are many differences. One of the biggest differences is in the movie 3 people tried to drown Ponyboy. In the book only Bob tried to drown him. This is a significant difference, because it would be a lot harder for Ponyboy to escape.

S.E Hinton wrote the outsiders when she was in high school and did not plan to publish the story. Since then it has been made into a book and a movie. I think the book was bad because it did not give the effects that the movie did. I liked the movie because it had more of the story put into it detail wise. While the book and movie have many similarities and differences, the movie was more effective in telling the story.…

    S. E. Hinton wrote the novel The Outsiders to present a complex theme that her characters have to deal with. She portrays an environment where characters created happiness for themselves but then have it destroyed by an action of grief. Throughout the book when one of the characters experienced joy there would also come pain. For example there was a character named Bob in The Outsiders that brought Cherry Valance comfort but when Bob died a great distress came over her which causes her to learn how to let go. In summary, one will understand that the author is trying to cast the theme that the main characters in the novel will experience delight, but it will get interrupted by agony.…

Some of the similarities was that the movie had some of the same exact lines from the book such as, “I got a good chance of bein’ let off easy” (Hinton 87). Parts of the movie were exactly like the book. Including the time when Pony, Johnny, and Dally went to Dairy Queen and when Johnny got the food for them when They were at the church (Hinton 87-88). Another similarity is when both Ponyboy and Johnny watch the sunrise and Pony says out loud the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” (Coppola, The Outsiders). I want my friend to read the book, because I think it gives more detail than the movie does. The movie doesn’t show most of the important parts that the book explains. The movie skipped the part when Ponyboy got jumped by the Socs, when Johnny’s mom came and visited him in the hospital, it never told us about Mickey Mouse (Soda’s horse), and it skipped the rodeo. Some of the similarities the movie and the book share are: The greasers get treated the same way, the language is the same, Pony runs off, and Johnny and Dally die in the end. There are more similarities, but those are only a few.…

But in the film, he began with Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally walking to the movies. The next difference from the beginning of the story was when Cherry asked Pony to go with her to buy some popcorn and drinks for the rest as in Johnny, Marcie, and the other two socs which also was a difference because those socs didn’t appear to talk to Cherry and Marcie. Next difference was inside the store to buy snacks and drinks there was happing an argument which wasn’t in the book as well. Third, difference was when Pony and Johnny were leaving to take Johnny to his house and both of them saw Johnny’s parents arguing.
