Comparing High School Classes

This year is my first year in high school. It’s a lot different than I expected. When I thought about high school, I thought about bullies, constant homework, cliques, and kids getting shoved in lockers, but I haven’t seen any of that so far. In lots of movies, there are horrible queen bees and musical lunchrooms. That’s a scary prospect, so it’s a good thing those are just for entertainment purposes. High school is actually a lot better than it seems. The classes in high school are pretty similar to the classes in middle school. We’ve been covering the same things I learned in middle school, but a little more in depth. The only class that I don’t have much experience in is Chemistry, but that’s not really supposed to be a freshman class anyway. I’m a military kid, so I skipped Oklahoma History and took a second science class instead. Being a military kid has really thrown off my classes. In every other state I’ve lived in the math classes have gone Algebra I, Geometry, and then Algebra II, but in Oklahoma it goes Algebra I, Algebra II, and then Geometry. This means that next year I’m going to be with a different set of kids than I am this year in Algebra II. …show more content…
All of the teachers here are really nice. My favorite has to be Coach Goff, the Chemistry teacher. He’s always really funny and doesn’t assign us much homework. My next favorite is Mrs. Beasley. She’s very sarcastic, like me, and let’s our class read at the beginning of class. When I started school here I had three books to read, now I’m on the last half of the last one. She doesn’t assign much homework either, just a few sets of questions to do in class. She makes reading stories as a class interesting even though I’m not a fan of class reading. The class also has some mythology incorporated into it, something that I’m very interested in. I don’t actually have a least favorite teacher, they’re all too great to rank like

There are a lot of good teachers and a lot of bad teachers as well. A great teacher has a confidence that shows the student that the teacher is in charge. Along with that they also have a genuine concern for the students education .One of the greats in my mind is Mrs. Bobbie Gaile Rodgers. I respect her because of all she has done for me.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

It was the beginning of high school, the start of a new chapter in my life; after coming into the school, the mall looked like the feeding of the five thousand. St. Thomas More has over a thousand students, and every single one was there on that first day, trying to find the way to their new classes just like me. Walking through the halls of St. Thomas More with the unfamiliar smell of the classrooms reminded me of what lies ahead. I thought it was going to be difficult, because I wouldn’t see anyone I know. Fortunately, some of my old friends from St. Pius were in my gym class, so I was glad that I would not be alone in gym class.…

Noor Al-Maadeed “Being judged by others” this personal piece that I shared, describes a past event happened during high school years. I learned how to overcome this negative experience to positive thing that helped shape my character turn into the confident woman I am today. The process of revising this piece of writing is on of the hardest because it is difficult for me to express my feelings about a place that is filled with negativity. In addition, I want to catch the reader’s attention and make them engaged with the story.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

In Plato’s story, The Allegory of the Cave, there is a group of people who are living in a cave. When one person escapes, he comes back to the cave to tell the people about the amazing experiences they could enjoy if they would muster the courage to step out of the cave to experience something new, but the people were too afraid to leave the comfort of their cave. Like the people in this story, I too had a cave I was comfortable in; that cave was my elementary school, St.Brendan Catholic School. After graduating from St.Brendan I was excited but also nervous to be moving I was comfortable at St.Brendan because it felt like a second home to me. My older sisters went to school there and my mom started teaching there before I could even walk and I have been a member of the St.Brendan Church family since birth.…

Maquoketa, upon my initial impression when I moved here in 2012, was a small quiet town and although that is something that I now I know it is also so much more. I was in middle-school when I first came but it was in high school that I truly grew to appreciate the wonderful community. My first year of high school was certainly unnerving, although I had previously attended an elementary and middle school that were more than double its size it still held an allure of suspense over what may soon come.…

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar. It definitely didn’t help that, at 13, I was the youngest person in the building. Just two days into the school year, I discovered that P-AP world…

Throughout my life, I knew I wanted to grow up fast. I always looked forward into doing adult things like driving and dating. Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed my childhood, but adulthood always looked more pleasing to my younger eyes. As I grew up over the years, I knew time was flying by, but I didn't think much of it. It would take the death of my best friend for me to realize that I must enjoy life in the very moment, and not to over plan the future.…

If I could give advice to the incoming freshman class, I would tell them that high school will change you. Not necessarily in a bad way, but in a way that will challenge your inner self. High school starts off weird because it is a blend of two middle schools and you probably won’t know everyone. Take me for example; most of my current best friends all went to a different middle school than me. At the start of high school you will probably start out with anywhere from five to ten best friends.…

High school can be quite intimidating with lockers slamming shut, people yelling, older kids towering over you, and public displays of affection. It’s a big change from the controlling environment of middle school. Throughout my life I’ve endured many school changes and it all got better when I graduated middle school and started high school; my freedom increased, class dismissal became more lenient, and you have a choice of classes. On my first day in high school I was amazed at the freedom we had.…
