The final element shown in both of these short stories is the resolution; the resolution is the final phase of the story. It is the “what happens next” element, it is the fate of the characters. In “Godfather Death” the resolution, which is ironic to the story, is death. After the physician disobeys the godfather, he is taken to his undergrounded cavern to meet his final fate. The godfather then shows him different candles that have different people's lifespans in them. “These are the life-lights of mankind. The large ones belong to children, the medium-sized ones to married people in their best years, and the little ones to old people. However, even children and young people often have only a tiny candle” (Grimm 9). He then tricks the physician and the physicians candle goes off and he dies. The author is explaining to us that trying to trick death is futile. He is showing that this is the worst fate a person can receive. This issue also joins to the issue of sin that the physician committed which caused him …show more content…
They both battle the issues of morality and sin: these elements then show the faults in man. Both the authors of “Godfather Death” and “A&P” are able to show the consequences of man succumbing to sin and the terrible repercussions that come with it. These stories have a similar plot, which helps to explain the issues that authors are trying to portray. They both teach us a very important lesson in what happens when you fall for sin and it also portrays the steps that it happens for the fall. The complex nature of discovery means that each uncovering can be confronting and provocative. Many individuals find that discoveries result from an unprecedented natural event or an inspired reappraising one’s inner and outer surroundings. Shakespeare’s 1611 play The Tempest explores the dynamics between the significance of new knowledge and how certain experiences become catalysts for the ultimate themes of the play: reconciliation and forgiveness. Similarly, Joel Schumacher’s 1990 movie Flatliners uses a supernatural theme, structure and cinematic special effects to demonstrate how while ideas of discovery vary, each experience is a potent undertaking, intimately related to new perceptions of ourselves and our relationships with others.…

To continue moving on to their similarities both of the narrators on the tales share the same action which is murder. As I mentioned above at the end both of them are truly guilty towards their crime of taking life's away for their own desire to stay in peace with their conscience, and as a result of that end up confessing their crime because the guilt and mind consumes them. Not to forget to mention that both of the narrators try to explain themselves to the law as the circumstances pushed them to commit sure brutal acts, in order to defend their own conscience as well as sanity. Also, when it comes to an end for both narrators they both play their last card by explaining their unstable mental issues with facts of confession and the logic.…

During the time of Jane Austen and Shakespeare, women were judged by the many different things that they did or didn’t do. One of the biggest things that came into play when determining the purity of a girl were her sexual relationships and if she was a promiscuous woman or not. In Much Ado about Nothing and Pride and Prejudice, we see that the promiscuity of male characters is treated differently and is seen as socially acceptable. Society has set and shaped standards causing women to have their own type of cultural rules to follow based off of their sexual impurity. When dealing with the same issue concerning men, it’s treated in a different way due to the fact that men had more power and received anything they would demand.…

Additionally, I would argue, this is the best way to paint the picture in which a patient is in so much pain that he or she is begging for an end. The author closes this section of the argument by stating, “If a person prefers-and even begs for-death as the only alternative to lingering on in this kind of torment, only to die anyway after a while then surely it is not immoral to help this person die sooner” (Rachels 268). This is an important part of the argument to emphasize because it can also appeal to the people who are against active euthanasia. I say this because most people in society do not appreciate or want immense pain,…

What makes a family “family,” is depended on the sacrifices you’re willing to make, even if it means death. As cheesy as it sounds, this is what I perceived the message to be in The Godfather: Part II by Francis Ford Coppola, but in the Cinema, the main protagonist Michael Corleone loses what matters the most to him, Family. You get to see him and his household collapse due to his obsession of the family business and you get to view this through great angles this flick has produced. The sequel overall satisfied me for it’s rich content and met up to the standards of the original movie. All in all, I enjoyed the film for its aspects of crime, violence and drama behind it.…

Introduction: One may not realize that a person is living in isolation, especially if they are seen around people. It is quite a wonder that one can be quite alienated from normal life or people while still living around them. More so, it is surprising how a person could just choose to live indoors because of his phobia and be happy enjoying his own company. In the two works of literature, The Pleasure of my Company by Steve Martin and The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger, this theme has been expressed in different ways. While Martin in his book, The Pleasure of My Company expresses the theme of isolation by developing a protagonist who is confined from the normal social life like other people with his fears, Salinger develops such a character…
