Bailey and George best represents Jesus. Mr. Bailey runs the Building and Loan bank that helps people buy better homes for a reasonable price, which Mr. Potter thinks is the wrong way to do business. Mr. Bailey is helpful and forgiving to his community by working with his customers instead of trying to get the most out of them, much like God is supposed to be in most religions. George, who represents Jesus in this film, is also forgiving and the most helpful to others that he can be (Capra, 1946). This is because the chocolate is supposed to be like God, and just by eating the chocolate all of the characters become stronger people, more forgiving and loving, and more accepting of differences. Josephine becomes strong enough to leave and stay away from an abusive husband, but also forgives him for his actions. Armande becomes less bitter and this leads to her rebuilding a relationship with her grandson, as well as Armande’s daughter realizing she cannot control her son. The Mayor also apologizes for his previous disrespect towards Vianne and accepts that she is different, but still a good person.
