Comparing Galarza And Alejandro Zamora

Decent Essays
So, I met with both Andres Galarza and Alejandro Zamora today. Andres was quick to point out that he had already spoken to you on (Wednesday 9/28) about his situation. He did mention that is has been quite difficult transitioning from high school to college. Also, he did admit that he was not really taking college seriously (unmotivated) in the beginning, but he now feels motivated to do well in his classes. According to Andres, he turned in a late assignment to you on Wednesday?

Alejandro was really honest with me and told me that he no longer wants to be part of Adelante FYE Program anymore. He mentioned that work consumes much of his time and as a result, he cannot fulfill our requirements. Also, he was contemplating whether to

Mel Martinez is an American lobbyist and former politician who served as a United States Senator from Florida from 2005 to 2009 and as general chairman of the Republican Party from November 2006 until October 19, 2007. He is more than the nation’s first Cuban American Senator. Because he was one of only two Hispanic’s in the U.S. Senate (the other was Democratic Senator Ken Salazar of Colorado) and because he represented Florida and it’s pivotal electoral power, Martinez was perhaps the U.S’s most important Hispanic lawmaker. But when he was elected in Fall 2004 Martinez was widely regarded as little more than a lapdog for President George Bush.…

Born into an underprivileged Puerto Rican family, José Rodriguez has overcome the seemingly impossible. Today is the seventh and final game of the Major League Baseball World Series featuring the Miami Marlins and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Due to an injury in the pitching rotation for the Dodgers, José Rodriguez has been called up from the minor leagues to pitch if he is needed. This is a very interesting decision by the Dodger’s coach, Dave Roberts. There is nothing more risky in baseball than possibly putting the fate of your long, grueling season in the hands of a rookie.…

Both Gonzales and La Chrisx write about issues and stereotypes that people had about Chicana/os. Initially, the term “Chicano” was seen as an insult to Mexican-Americans. We learn though that it was later embraced by Mexican-American activists as a way to transform an insult into a signifier of ethnic strength and pride and as a refusal to assimilate into mainstream white culture. Gonzales speaks about how…

In the Gonzales v. Carhart case, the justice with the most persuasive argument is Justice Kennedy and the Justice with the least persuasive argument is Justice Ginsberg. According to the decision of the case, the Partial Birth law is not vague, but as mentioned in class, the Partial Birth law is in fact vague because of the amount of time that was spent deciding whether which actions would be considered homicide. For example, a woman who is on her way to get an abortion, delivers the baby before she gets to the clinic and then kills the baby herself because of her “intent” to get an abortion to begin with. But although the decision is a bit controversial, Justice Kennedy’s argument is still more persuasive because it gives woman the privilege to continue to get abortions if they wish, and there are guidelines that are set up to know how abortion procedures are to be managed. For example, in the article it states that the Partial Birth Act’s text demonstrates that it regulates and proscribes performing the intact D&E procedure.…

For me, I know I have my own motive to keep on going: my family, their reputation, and to represent my culture. To know he shared the same original inspiration would be reassuring that I am in the right track. Lastly, I would simply like to thank him. If it was not for him, I do not believe I would be in the position I am today: accepted into prestigious universities, top 1% in my class, a regular volunteer in my community, and passionate for my Spanish culture. I want to do the same that he did to impact not only history, but to drive our people forward in society and give them all a better…

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Maria Avina relocated with her family to Amarillo, Texas from our neighboring country. Maria, my 20 year old roommate, sat across from me dutifully working on her Calculus 3 homework, jokingly second guessing her choice of being a Mechanical Engineering major. Although she is a permanent resident of the United States, Maria hold strong ties with her mother country, keeping up with news regarding the country and its people. More recently, immigration and healthcare has been a huge topic of discussion in our household, so, understandably, I could not think of another person better to conduct this interview with. It was at this time that Spanish changed for me because I was going to learn how to read, write and speak this language more fluently. It’s the first day of school and I’m already in my second class of the day which was Spanish level 1 and 2 for beginners. The class room is over its capacity because there are roughly about 10 students without seats so they have to sit on the floor. The first week of school was pretty simple in this class mostly just introduction and having to write a few made up stories.…
