Comparing Friar Lawrence's Visit Of Romeo And Juliet

A) Paris and Juliet visit Friar for similar and different reasons. Paris went to visit Friar Laurence to inform him about his upcoming marriage with Juliet, which will take place on Thursday. Paris wanted to make wedding plans for his marriage on Thursday. However, there was no opportunity to make the wedding plans because Juliet went to visit Friar as well. Friar tells Paris to leave and Juliet asks Friar for a solution to her problem. She is married to Romeo and does not want to marry Paris. Juliet and Paris’ visits to Friar Laurence are similar because their reason for visiting him is related to their marriage that Capulet arranged for on Thursday. Paris states “Do not deny to him that you love me.” Paris assumes that Juliet is excited over marrying him and will be happy if she will, however, Juliet is not. Juliet replies “I will confess to you that I love him.” Juliet is saying that she will not say that she loves Paris, but rather that she loves Romeo. Juliet is not interested in marrying Paris. She cuts off her conversation with Paris by asking Friar Laurence if he is free at this time.
C) Juliet allows Paris to kiss her for many reasons. For example, Juliet may have allowed Paris to kiss her to make him believe and think that she too is interested in the marriage. Juliet let him kiss her to cover up her own intentions, which is to end the marriage before they actually get married. By doing this, there will be less problems to handle.
D) Shakespeare has Juliet say that she is “past hope, past cure, past help,” for many reasons. Shakespeare has Juliet to say this to make the audience realize and show how desperate she is in not wanting to marry Paris. Juliet states “If in thy wisdom thou canst give no help/ Do thou but call my resolution wise/ And with this knife I’ll help it presently.” Juliet says that if Friar Laurence cannot present a solution to this problem, she’ll end her own life. The Prince also wants the feud between the Capulets and Montagues to end, so thus, the Prince would have probably helped Romeo and Juliet if the Friar or anyone else contacted him.
