Literature Critique Essay – “A comparison of Frankenstein and Prometheus”
When analyzing “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley, I noticed that there are some similarities to Prometheus in Greek Mythology. First of all, I noticed that both Frankenstein and Prometheus are alike in that both characters are disciplined for creating substance from an unusual idea. Prometheus, in Greek Mythology, was the creator of mankind. Likewise, in Mary Shelley’s novel, Viktor Frankenstein creates a man-like monster. I also noticed that each give a certain gift to their creations. Viktor gave the gift of electricity, and Prometheus the gift of fire. In turn, both Prometheus and Frankenstein are ultimately doomed by their own creations.
