Mary is two of the statues, Gabriel is the statue on the farthest left and Elizabeth is the statue on the farthest right. The two statues (Mary and Elizabeth) were actually made earlier and by a different artist than the Mary of the left and Gabriel. Mainly focusing on Gabriel and the Mary closest to him, one sees how incredibly detailed each of the statues are. This focus allows exactitude in Giotto’s realism. The crowds of this fresco are much smaller than the crowds seen in Duccio’s Crucifixion on the Maestá. Mary faints in a realistic way into the hands of St. John and a holy woman . Dividing the fate of Christ’s cloak again suggests the sin of obsession over worldly goods and wealth, relating to the patronage and function of this chapel. Both paintings have the same subject of Madonna with child but the style is what makes them diverse from one another. Some may say that between the two Giotto’s is better because of the realistic features and use of color in the painting. Although both paintings portray the same concept, Cimabue’s Virgin and Child Enthroned, and Raphael’s The Madonna of the Meadows are vastly different. This is because of the different styles, and the different ways of thinking of the two time periods. The Crucified Christ (1503-04) is a classical example of Italian Renaissance art. The piece illustrates, extremely effectively the Italian desire to make everything in which they paint beautiful, not matter how horrific the subject may be. Christ in this depiction, although, dead does not appear to have progressed into rigor mortis of any degree, Christ also appears to look peace in death in the Raphael painting, unlike in the Grunewald where distress is on Christ’s face is blatant. The way in which Christ is bleeding in Raphael’s piece is depicted with a degree of beauty, the bleeding is not messy, any blood coming from Christ, is delicately dripping into chalices held by angels on either side of Christ. This is a complete contrast with that of Grunewald’s depiction of the crucifixion, where blood is freely flowing down both his arms and legs.…
This image shows Mother Mary talking to her Mother St.Anne. I love this image because as an religious kid, this photograph demonstrates my love for my religion. The quality I like best about this photo is how I edited it. I loved the way I kept the background the same yet I lighten up Mary and St.Anne. The one and only thing I would do differently would be to experiment with the contrast and the brightness a little more or even try this photo in black and white.…
Giotto’s figures are weighty and are reminiscent of three-dimensional sculptures, giving her a much more realistic appearance. In opposition to Cimabue’s figure, Giotto creates a prominent rather than idealistic depiction of the Virgin. When looking at the drapery of the fabric we can further see the disparity between the artist’s interpretation of the Italo-Byzantine style. In the Cimabue’s painting, her clothing is solely draped with lines, making her appear to be very thin and tall, which adds to her idealistic appearance.…
