Imagine a little 12-year-old girl sitting on her bed, pencil in hand using her cell phone as a flashlight in the middle of the night, 10 pm (for a 12-year-old that is). She furiously scribbles into her notebook all the ideas that she had in her late night sleep. That little 12 year old was me, of course, that is what this assignment is about, you know my passion, so there could be no other person that this could be about. The introduction was not entirely true though, yes my passion is writing, but I wasn’t up writing about dreams like most kids. Little 12 year old me was furious with how The Hunger Games books were written, with how Cinna dies, and Prue confusingly blew up (was anyone else confused or was that just me?), so I took it into …show more content…
A few authors that I really enjoy are, Fredrik Backman, who wrote A Man Called Ove as well as many other novels, and Lauren Oliver, author of Panic and Before I Fall. Poets that I enjoy are mainly Edgar Allen Poe for obvious reasons and Emily Dickinson. I enjoy Dickinson because in her writings like, “I Dwell in Possibility”, she capitalizes the words deemed important to her, and I did that even before I knew about Dickinson; it doesn’t matter what it was, whether it happened to be notes for class or little short thoughts in my head, words would get capitalized in the middle of …show more content…
In the epic poem “Beowulf”, readers can see that they worshipped a hero that would boast about the courageous things that person did, like when Beowulf killed the monster Grendel, he went in with no weapons, no protection and came out on top and he let everyone in the town of Danes know it. In Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, women were married off to rich men to give them a better social class. Readers could tell that Austen did not appreciate this because she called out society in her book showing how men are prideful by the way they propose, making it seem more of a business deal and not out of love and wanting to care for the woman for the rest of his life, or hers depending on who dies first. She also wanted to show people that if the people marry for money, they will not be happy. Austen utilized the Bennet family in this way, Mr. Bennet was making sure his daughter was marrying for love because he did not and Mr. and Mrs. Bennet were not happy together, back then people were looked down on if they had a

In her novel, “Pride and Prejudice”, Jane Austen narrates a story of love between a middle class Elizabeth Bennet, and an upper-class Fitzwilliam Darcy. However, their marriage was no consequence of love at first sight, nor an easy journey. It was an uneven road throughout most of the novel—a road with numerous obstacles. Such obstacles that initially prevented a relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy include the latter’s pride, and the former’s prejudice, and the actions of those around them. Darcy’s pride throughout much of the novel was the first factor that prevented an earlier relationship between himself and Elizabeth.…

The whole ideal for women was to get married and have somewhere to life once their father passed away because the estate always went to a male heir in the family not a female so if the husband were to ever pass away the wife and kids were left out in the open with nothing. In Pride and Prejudice, Mrs. Bennet was dying to have her daughters be able to marry so they had something in their life and to be able to have someone for if and when their father die because one he’s gone there isn’t anything left for the women because being that their women they don’t have any right to the estate. Mrs. Bennet did everything she could to get them married, telling her husband to go and make friends with Mr. Bingley and kind of get them known to the public and she wants her daughters to go out and make themselves known and to catch the eye of someone rich and get married so they had a good life. Women back in the 19th century were seen to do this because the house was always in the father’s/husband’s name and once he passed away there was nothing left for anyone of them. So that’s why in pride and prejudice the mother, Mrs. Bennet was always seen to be trying to get her daughters to marry because a man’s life expectancy is shorter than of a women’s.…

Being a satirical novel, Jane Austen 's Pride and Prejudice is filled with scenes depicting the social norms and standards of the 19th century and how ridiculous some of them were, the majority prodding at the conditions of their social class structure or genders. Once scene critiquing both of these aspects is Mr Collins ' proposal to Elizabeth. Analyzing the standards of women only marrying for superficial purposes, women being told that they 're worth relied on them being married to men in classes above their original ones, and men not being able to understand the word "no" Austen was able to portray these standards in a way where they were easily seen as over the top and ridiculous, while portrayed in the world where these actions were the norm and were expected. Even after two centuries, remnants of these standards can be found in today 's dating culture. Mr Collins ' proposal to Elizabeth read as less of a heartfelt "spur of the moment" address and more of a speech he rehearsed over and over again, keeping everything the same except switching out one girl 's name…
