Comparing Demodex Folliculorum And D.

Improved Essays
There are two mite species: Demodex folliculorum and D. brevis. One is a bit longer than the other, but both have eight legs, somewhat resemble worms, are microscopic, and have no anuses. One species is known to reside in hair follicles, one in the sebaceous glands. The sebaceous glands secrete oil onto your hair. Some scientists say they eat this oil, but they may also eat dead skin cells or bacteria. They come out of their hiding places at night, and crawl around your face to find a mate. The females can only lay one egg at a time, as their eggs take up nearly half of their body sometimes. Once they die, their body dries up and all of the poop they’ve built up through their life breaks down on your face. Because virtually every adult has

The data collected in this experiment provided efficient evidence to support the hypothesis which was that both the allelochemicals caffeine and kava would affect the heart beats per minute in the Daphnia magna. This means that the heart rate of Daphnia magna was affected by the allelochemicals. Caffeine raised the beats per minute, while kava drastically decreased the number of heart beats in a given minute. As seen in Figure 1 kava decreased the heart rate to -46 beats per minute, while the caffeine raised the heart beats to 26 per minute. This supports the conclusion that the stimulation humans receive off of caffeine has a similar effect in Daphnia magna.…

Daphnia pulex are tiny aquatic crustaceans which have a translucent body which allows us to observe their internal organs in thorough detail. Daphnia is alleged to be a substitute of a human being in this experiment to examine the effects of chemicals on a heart of beings or other species for that matter . This will be measured by the heart rate as the heart rate is the contraction in one complete cardiac cycle. Furthermore Daphnia pulex is the most common species of water flea, an organism which can be found in almost every permanent, eutrophic water body. Generally Daphnia are freshwater organisms.…

Researchers still struggle with pinpointing how pubic lice developed. However, historical and archaeological evidence demonstrate that crab louse evolved from the similar gorilla louse, Pthirus gorillae (BioMed Central, 2009). Through genetic research on the mitochondrial genome of the chimpanzee louse, researchers found that a single mini-chromosome had fragmented into three sections in the lineage of ectoparasites, which includes head lice, body lice, and pubic lice about 3.3 million years ago (Herd, Barker, Shao, 2015). Diaz predicts that the body louse may have evolved from the head louse after man started wearing clothes without proper grooming techniques, resulting in humans being the predominant host reservoir for pubic lice (Diaz, 2006). However, humans split from gorillas approximately 7 million years ago, indicating that humans developed crab louse from the gorilla family although scientists have not yet proven how this occurred.…

Although the statue of Augustus of Primaporta and the statue of Doryphoros bear some minor differences, the similarities between the two statues are remarkable. To the naked untrained eye these two statues might even be mistaken from the same culture. However, the statue of Augustus is from Roman culture and the statue of Doryphoros is from ancient Greek culture. These two works of art seem very similar because Roman art and culture borrowed many ideas from the Greeks and sculpting is just one of them. Augustus of Primaporta was sculpted in the early first century during the Julio-Claudians era in Musei Vaticani, Braccio Nuovo, Rome.…
