Comparing Death In Bhagavad-Gita, Gilgamesh And

Throughout history death is considered as a common process going around the world which is unavoidable. Death is like a public event, where a person who waits for death is surrounded by loved ones. The community is greatly affected because it is losing one of its participants. Human beings have different views towards death. Some people believe death is just an everlasting sleep, some believe that there is an afterlife when a person dies. This attitude towards death is uncertain. Sometimes people consider death as natural, inviting, repelling and beautiful. These four factors remain the center of focus towards death. This essay focusses on the different views on death based on four texts which are Bible, Bhagavad- Gita, Gilgamesh and Hamlet.

Reincarnation means to be born again and this is followed by Karma, which takes into account the good life lived by a person before death. According to Hindus death should come naturally at proper time. According to them, a person should tell illness should tell their family so that they can prepare for their loved ones’ death and be happy for them. In Hinduism suicide would result in lesser make up for their karmic debt. There are many rituals for a person who is Hindu to die. First of all, a person should die at home surrounded by the loved ones, who will sing hymns and chant their prayers. Then as death approaches, the bed should be moved so that the head faces east.
