Kritzinger and Dr. Stuckart are portrayed as already aware of what disasters committing the crime of genocide would amount to if the Fuhrer’s thousand year plan was unsuccessful. In Downfall, we witness the total destruction of Berlin, Germany, and the end of the Third Reich. Allied troops have moved into Berlin, while Hitler and his men cower in a concealed bunker to wait out the invasion. In neither Conspiracy nor Downfall does the audience see anymore than a few brief moments out of the Bunker or outside the walls of the Wannsee Conference house. This shows us that life’s most important historical moments don’t always occur on a battlefield or on television, but in the privacy of a closed off room amongst at times the smallest groups of men.
Both Conspiracy and Downfall did a wonderful job of representing such a vast number of German leaders and front-runners. Downfall, depicted Hitler in such a moving and unbiased manner. Showing the good he brought to himself, Eva Brown, and the people whom he surrounded himself with.
