Born in London on December 5th, 1830, Christina Rossetti was the fourth and final child of Gabriele Rossetti and Frances Polidori. She had one sister, Maria Francesca, and two brothers, Gabriel Dante and William Michael, all of whom were about a year apart. The two sisters were taught by their mother, reading the Bible and other religious texts as they grew older. From here, Christina’s religious affiliation and dedication are established in her early childhood. Their father and mother, being well educated and prominent figures of the time, made sure their children were well equipped in the arts. All of the Rossetti children were considered to be artistically inclined, and as they matured this was evident. No longer being able to work as a governess, she turned to the familiar and wrote three collections of poetry. Sing-Song, published in 1872, was a collection of children's poems, while A Pageant and Other Poems, published in 1881 was mostly religious poetry.
