In And Then There Were None ten people were stranded on an island and they were being killed one by one and you didn't know who would die next. In contrast, in “The Temple,” a woman hears a noise outside and you don't know what it is. They both use suspicion to add to the story and to make it have the gothic feel. However in And Then There Were None the suspicion is built up with each death while in “The Temple” suspicion is built up with sounds the woman is hearing. The tone of And Then There Were None had a dark and sinister tone. For example Christie uses the setting to help with the tone by making it on a far off island where it storms. This creates a conflict in the plot which adds to the story. The tone of “The Temple” is mysterious.
