The Bhagavad Gita and The Hebrew Bible A Comparison of Religious Literature The religious literature of Hinduism and Judaism differ everywhere from the original languages they were written in, too the basis of their fundamental views. While both share a monotheistic idea of god, Judaism sees god as strictly transcendent; where in Hinduism god is both transcendent and immanent. The Bhagavad Gita revolves around four main concepts, the first being Dharma. Social and religious rules, general laws, or one’s purpose in life, can make up Dharma. In the Bhagavad Gita Arjuna is a warrior; that is his Dharma. It is something that cannot be changed no matter opinion, and it is his duty to fulfill it. The first section is called the Torah (meaning teaching). It was believed to be dictated from God to Moses. The Torah focuses on living life, and generally is used as a guideline on how to live. The second section is called the Neviʾim, this covers all of the prophets. Split in two sections the Neviʾim consists of the former prophets, as well as the latter prophets. This section is more of a history portion of the Hebrew Bible, and it primarily covers the israelites from the death of Moses (Joshua) to the establishment of the kingdom of God (Ezekiel). Lastly the third section of the Hebrew Bible is the Ketuvim. This final section of the Bible is one of the most literary. It contains poems, history, short stories and tales, as well as apocalyptic literature. Combined to create the Hebrew Bible a message appears. Judaism is all about belief in God, and the truth of Moses. You must live by the Torah, and love one another wholly. God will reward and punish those deserving, and when the messiah comes the dead will be resurrected. Finally the goal of spirituality this piece of literature preaches, is to know and serve God (and
