Beowulf epic vs Beowulf and Grendel movie The Beowulf epic is a heroic tale of the mighty Beowulf coming to the land of Daneland to fulfill a blood oath. After, After reading the story you find out he was actually there for the gold he had been promised to kill Grendel.. With the newer version of the story, Beowulf and Grendel, the story is slightly changed. The concept is there, but is rewritten to appeal to a newer generation with additional issues that can make the characters and story relatable to the current generation. This aspect of our society we have different views on why we do things and what truly is right and wrong. Conflict in moral and ethical dilemmas are what contrasts in the two Beowulf stories. Today's society depends on reasoning and justificationjustifying for their actions by asking the question, Why we do things. One example of this questioning is with the beginning of the movie. Grendel is a young child playing with his father in a valley. Hrothgar is with a number of his men and comes across the Trolls. Hrothgar and his men begin to chase Grendel's father and himself up to a edge of a mountain side. They begin to take turns trying to shoot the father with their arrows till one finally Pierces the Heart of Grendel's Father. Unferth’s uncertainty leads to him challenge his authority. In the movie Unferth is submerged in ‘survivor’s guilt’ since he passed out drunk while everyone else in the meat hall was brutally murdered by Grendel. The guilt affected him as much as to pray to Odin for death. When death never came for him after asking he became a devoted to his religion.
