In the book Beowulf the character Beowulf life was imagined in the views of the great viking virtues, which can be compared very well with the rap song “ Gangsters Paradise” by Coolio where the narrator has to live through the challenging life of a gangster. Although the story of Beowulf and the song “Gangsters Paradise” have many differences but as well as many similarities of the viking virtues. The narrator and the story Beowulf share more than just one virtue such as the anglo-saxon virtue of reputation. Wyrd meaning that whatever really happens to you was just faith of God and nothing else. In the song “ Gangsters Paradise” the narrator writes, “Death ain't nothing but a heartbeat away/ I’m livin’ life do-or-die what, can I say?”. He already knows he going to die sooner or later, so he going to live his life as he wants it, he going to commit crimes and not care because no matter what he does he going to die and if it was his time to go then it was his time. In the story Beowulf the arthur writes, “ he knows not of swords...afterwards the wise God, the holy Lord, shall award fame to whatever side seems good to him”(11). Beowulf ultimately says the definition of the concept of wyrd. He says that if he died that fight between him and Grendel that it was the decision of God so might as well go out as he wants to because nothing is ever promised tomorrow today.
