Beowulf and Achilles are characterized as two very different heroes. However, they do share several similarities. Beowulf is characterized as a hero who takes the lead and saves his entire town from the mighty monster, Grendel. He fights the monster, sacrificing several of his men’s lives along the way. Willing to fight for his people, he takes what ever steps he has to. On the other hand, Achilles fights Hector in the Iliad because he killed his friend. He feels guilty because he feels as though he should have been there to protect him. Achilles will do anything to not risk the life of his men.

Though the two heroes are different, they have several traits that make them more similar than you would think. Both of these heroes obtain
