Comparing Belle's Views In Beauty And The Beast

Although Belle learns to love the beast too, the way that their love story unravels is differently. The beast may have been cold hearted at first for always yelling due to his short temper, and for not allowing her to eat if it was not with him, but deep down, he was always nice. Despite having her like a prisoner in his castle, he was in a way always looking out after her, even when she attempts to escape. He goes and rescues her from the wolves, and that is when their relationship with one another begins. By rescuing her, Belle’s perception of him changes and begins to think that there is something about him that she had not realized in him before. As their bond strengthens, the beast realizes his feelings for her and has never felt this way about anybody, and for this reason, wants to surprise her with a library (Trousdale and Kirk, “Beauty and the Beast”). As Sheldon says, "[Beauty] comes to see that under [the beast's] physical ugliness there is something that is really very beautiful but it takes perception. It's a way of saying you've got to like the world even if it doesn't look so beautiful [at] first (qutd. in Abel)." We see this message portrayed when Beauty/Belle falls in love with the beast. Although Beauty/Belle came to realize their love for the beast a little late, they both learned to love him for him, and not for what is on the outer surface. Like the cliché quote says, “you don’t know what you have until it is gone” and that is exactly right. Beauty/Belle had not realized the beast’s love and their love for him in return until he was almost gone. But in the end, because they dug deeper, they found the beast’s true beauty when no one else
