Battle Royal by Ralph Ellison, is a short story in which can relate another short story Dust Tracks On a Road by Zora Neale and the poem Incident by Countee Cullen, where the narrator is impacted by the people in their past and or present. In the Battle Royal the main part that leads to the relation towards the other poem or short story, was several people having an impact towards the narrator which sticks with him and determines what happens in the future of his life.The grandfather of the narrator in this case has been the one to have caused all the trouble from the day of his deathbed, till the living moment of the narrator as well as the white men. The little black boy just had simply smiled at the white little boy, but the way he greeted back was by sticking his tongue out and calling him a “Nigger”(9). In the little city of Baltimore as he grew older was never looked at the same way as it was before this incident happened, as that was all he had remembered from that city being marked in a terrible way being so young and thinking back to it. Last of several to relate it to is the short story Dust Tracks On a Road by Zora Neale Hurston, where Zora is impacted by the white ladies in unexpected ways. These white ladies came to Zora's’ school to observe their lifestyle and teaching, meanwhile their Zora had memorized her parts of reading from a book and had impressed the ladies which she had not expected to. These ladies had seen potential in Zora and showed so much compassion towards her showering her with gifts and favorite things to set her along the future. The impact was big toward Zora's life with the white ladies help making it all happen she became a successful
