Mockumentaries ultimately exist to parody serious subject matters that are addressed in documentaries. Conventions and techniques are utilised by the composers and directors of mockumentaries in order to do this. In particular, the mockumentaries 'Babakuieria' (1986) directed by Don Featherstone and 'The Majestic Plastic Bag' (2010) directed by Jeremy Konner both attempt to mock prominent issues that exist in society. Konner does this through the form of a animal documentary, characterizing the plastic bag as an living creature throughout the mockumentary. He further exaggerates his point by personifying the plastic bag as "unsure of itself" through a close up shot as it gets blown by the wind across a car park. This portrays the fact that humans leave their rusbish carelessly and that it can not clean up after itself. Additionally, Konner uses long shot to demonstrate the plastic bag flowing towards the ocean. Through this, viewers can see that the humans standing in the scene did not care or glance at the plastic which describes the way we act about our environment. Also, as the plastic bag is floating in the ocean and towards the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch", a eye-level angle shot is used to focus on the sea lives as they devour the helpless plastic. By doing this, Konner proves to the viewers what the plastic is going through and has hope of making the viewers think about the animal's persective as well. Meanwhile, 'The Majestic Plastic Bag' uses close ups along with the use of hyperbole to exggrate "nature's most deadly killers, the teacup yorkie". This makes Konner's text seem more humourous and since it's placed into simple terms, the younger viewers are allow to understand. Lastly, Konner's mockumentary ends in a unique way, he ends it with a caption that reveals the text type. The tourists are not only being intrusive in the natives’ lives by taking photographs of their every move, but they are also treating them like animals you would see at the zoo or an object at the museum. I found it rather offensive because the tourists are making it as if they are an exotic kind of species when in fact they are regular human beings just like them. One of the natives even says that he is confused why they keep taking photographs of them and its clear in his voice that he is annoyed with it. Another purpose of the film is to show the problematic relationship between the tourists and natives. Since the natives view the tourists as much wealthier than them, they depend on them to buy their crafts in order to make money.…

It eventually breaks down, but it never breaks down completely. Sometimes when plastic is being taken to the landfills, the bags fly out of the garbage trucks and ends up in the ocean or somewhere where animals can choke on it. When plastic ends up in the ocean it floats in little pieces at the top of the ocean, and fish think that they are food.…
