Comparing and Contrasting of Rikki-tikki-tavi
“Run and find out” (Rudyard Kipling, page 144), that is a motto that a very special mongoose lived his whole life by. The book Rikki-tikki-tavi is for the most part similar to the movie form of this story. The movie is just approached differently than the book that Rudyard Kipling wrote. In the story Rikki-tikki-tavi, Rikki the Mongoose is a brave little animal that protects the ones he loves by fighting the ferocious, deadly, and greedy snakes around the bungalow. He has some help along the way but “Rikki did the real fighting” ( Rudyard Kipling, page 143). That summary is almost equivalent to the summary of the movie of Rikki-tikki-tavi. Teddy's mom says at first in the beginning of the book "I don't like that," said Teddy's mother; "he may bite the child" (Rudyard Kipling, page 144). She surely seemed insecure about keeping rikki-tikki. Teddy’s father however was very sure of keeping Rikki the mongoose. He states to his wife that "Teddy's safer with that little beast than if he had a bloodhound to watch him” (Rudyard Kipling, page 144). In both stories the dad is confident on keeping rikki but the mom is not sure at first. Towards the very end of the passage and the movie Teddys parents are very proud and happy that Rikki saved their son from the atrocious snakes roaming around the bungalow. That is made clear in both the movie and the book. Since the book and movie had the same characters, deadly snakes, and the fact that Teddy’s parents loved, and honor Rikki in the end, the book and the movie are very much comparing. There were some contrasting traits between the passage, but for the most part they were very similar tales of Rikki-tikki-tavi. This book was such a great example of showing comparing and contrasting because it had even amounts of both. These are all the main reasons on how Rikki-tikki-tavi the book is comparing to the movie.
