Comparing Act 1 Scene 5 Of William Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

Throughout the entire play Romeo cares about his loved ones.

In the second act of the play Romeo confesses his love to Juliet, underneath her balcony. Romeo has just met Juliet and is already confessing his love and his loyalty to her. Romeo speaks of Juliet as the glorious sun that has arose to kill off the envious moon, “ It is the East, and Juliet is the sun./Arise, fair sun, and kill the envious moon.”( 2.2 3-4) Romeo speaks of Juliet as if she is a god, rising above the gloomy moon with gleams of light to overpower the moon’s darkness. Romeo was depressed wanting to be loved by the woman of whom he loved dearly until he laid eyes on Juliet, and was instantaneously in love with her. But right before he does he apologizes to everyone that he has hurt in the past including his cousin Tybalt whom he killed earlier, “Tybalt, liest thou there in thy bloody sheet?/ O, what more favor can I do thee/ than with that hand that cut thy youth in twain/… Forgive me cousin”(5.3 97-101). Romeo confesses that regrets killing Tybalt as he was Juliet’s cousin. He loves Tybalt because he was loved by Juliet and Romeo is so committed to Juliet that he will love anyone she loves. Romeo makes this confession while lying on his deathbed, to show Juliet that he will stay true to his word and die on what he is saying. Moreover, when Romeo first enters Juliet’s tomb he finds Paris who was supposed to marry Juliet later that day. Romeo provokes a fight with Paris and fatally stabs him, but Paris’ dying wish is to be laid in the tomb with Juliet. Even though Romeo is devoted to his wife, he can understand why Paris loves Juliet because of her beauty, “ I’ll bury thee in a triumphant grave. .../ For here lies Juliet, and her beauty makes/ this vault a feasting presence full of light.” (5.3 83- 86). Romeo fell in love with Juliet as soon as laid eyes on her as did Paris. Romeo knows how stunning Juliet is that he understands why Paris loves her: beauty.
