As a human progresses in life, it is almost evident to that person to encounter a situation where they must sacrifice one’s happiness in order to secure another’s. This phenomena happens to occur in A Trip to Grandma’s and What of this Goldfish Would You Wish? both stories we have read in the past. It also happens to coincide with the experiences we’ve had in the past. With these stories it is shown both who a person is through their relationship with others and the sacrifices they've made.

On sacrificing happiness, it is shown how both the What of this Goldfish Would You Wish and A Trip to Grandma story both play huge roles. For example, in the What of this Goldfish Would You Wish? the class would go on to agree that there was a very big possibility that Sergei had sacrificed his last wish and his only companion which was his happiness. An utopia is an ideal world where everyone is happy together without any worries or concerns. In the book Brave New World, Aldous Huxley creates a utopian world where individuals are created in a community using genetic engineering, dehumanizing them by conditioning their brains for consumerism to create stability in society. Why is it that in our society feeling sorry for one's self is unacceptable? I read an article that claims such indulgence will lead one to failure. The author’s use of his friend's job losses and the inability to hold down a job was the direct result of self-pity, a device to be seen as a victim in an attempt to garner another’s attention and sympathy. In actuality, this is a fallacious example of cause and effect (self-pity > victim role.)…

Another example that this comic is arguing is that too often in relationships contentment is placed as a responsibility of a person's partner rather than one's own responsibility. As a result, people seek to avoid internal discontent through external solutions such as relationships, material items, substances, sex, and an array of other short-term solutions. Moreover, the real source of dissatisfaction is the lack of wholeness within which cannot be solved externally.…
