Comparing A Sound Of Thunder And Being Prey

Improved Essays
Each one of these stories had dangerous things that the people or person encountered. Do you think you could survive being attacked by a dinosaur or a crocodile? Both stories, ‘’A Sound of Thunder and ‘’Being Prey’’ both had an experience with a dangerous reptile. Would you be up for the challenge?

The setting in each of these stories were ‘’relatably’’ different. They each had to do with some sort of dangerous reptile. In ‘’Being Prey’’ the setting was in present day – in a swamp. This is un-touched by humans, and the predator in this was a crocodile... While in ‘’A Sound of Thunder’’ the setting was pre-historic in a jungle with the reptile of dinosaurs. In conclusion, both of the stories, both had a pretty dangerous setting to be in.

In “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury, the author explores the idea that the choices we make can affect others, not just ourselves, in order to show how we as humans deal with the consequences of our choices. Bradbury first introduces this theme when he says that “a touch of the hand and this burning would, on the instant, reverse itself.” This quote shows how small actions can cause much larger consequences. What the author is doing is trying to caution the reader to be aware of how a small action on their part can affect their future. The story progresses until it reaches the point where Eckels, the protagonist, sees the monstrous Tyrannosaurus that he paid to kill.…

Imagine an action that has no consequences. Ultimately, this task is impossible, because such an action doesn’t exist. Every action is a result of a choice, and all decisions have a lasting effect on life. Considering that a person’s life is the sum of the decisions they make, it is impractical to claim that there aren’t repercussions of individual deeds. Although, there are many possible results of an action, as illustrated by the short story, “A Sound of Thunder,” by Ray Bradbury, all actions have considerable ramifications.…

In the short story “A Sound of Thunder” there was a lot of foreshadow used. It seems like the most used one of all was the exaggerated importance of staying on the path and not doing anything that could possibly change the future. Travis used the phrase “stay on the path” at least four times in the beginning of the story. This is a huge hint that Eckels would possibly go off the path later on in the story, and also because he seemed to be unconvinced that it was a big deal saying things like “So what” and “Why not.”…
