When Weldon started the short story with the statement “this is a sad story “I expected an epic tale of losing a loved one. (Weldon 140) However, instead the story is about the ending of a professor and student relationship. The narrator describes a trip she is taking with her professor who is also her lover in Bosnia. She and the professor end up passing in the same place Princip assassinated Archduke Ferdinand and started to compare her situation with Princip. While she does compare her choice of being with the professor with Princip option of killing the Archduke, she begins to realize her choices.
