For example, I help Ms. Soto with the PTA meetings that the school has, I also take care of her son Aaron whenever she has an important meeting to attend. I'm willing to give up my personal time to take care of Aaron because I feel like if I see anyone needing to help I should to help them in any way I can. The video, Doing the Right Thing group Bible study by Charles Colson, Brit Hume, reminded me how morally and spiritually bankrupt our society has become. Greed and corruption run rampant among our business, schools, government, homes, and sadly, even our schools. Pride and greed tend to work together in the lives of many people, leading to divorce, neglect, addictions, theft, and many other immoral actions. Chuck Colson gave an excellent explanation of self-righteousness when he stated, “self-righteousness is the belief that you are so good that you can’t be compromised” (Colson, 2012).…

I’ve never been able to decline help to someone in need. I always put everyone else's needs before my own because when I sacrifice myself in order to put a smile on someone else’s face it gives me peace. Contributing to a cause to make the world a better place is worth the sleepless nights. When one is passionate about helping people it won’t matter to them how long they have to go without food or how tired they will feel at the end of the day. Just this week, I’ve had several occasions where I gladly gave up my time to do people favors or help someone in need.…

In my opinion, the spiritual and emotional suffering experienced by Elie and the other Jewish prisoners has far more damaging and lasting effects than any physical wounds. Firstly, the cruel way the Jews are treated irrevocably destroys any trace of faith and spirituality left in their souls and minds. Similarly, their circumstances cause many Jews to unintentionally sacrifice their morality and rationality so as to have the best chance of survival. Finally, many Jews are unable to cope with the emotional pressures and struggles of isolation and separation, and are permanently subjected to torturous hallucinations or irrational thinking. Mental suffering from abuse and other forms of trauma can often be a lifelong concern, whereas physical…

Spirituality is a component in every person’s life in varying degrees and is accessed by each individual uniquely. Some people, such as Thoreau and Dickinson, isolate completely from society in order to achieve self-actualization. Others, such as Emerson, are able to reach enlightenment while remaining in contact with society, yet still remain attached to nature. In Transcendentalism, the spirit and soul come in conflict with society when faced with obstacles, including materialism, the influence of societal ideas, and obligations or responsibilities. To the Transcendentalists, money does not make the world go round.…
