In the story Scat by Carl Hiaasen two kids named Nick and Marta go on a field trip to the Black Vine Swamp. Something weird happens. There was a mysterious fire the day they were in the black vine swamp. Was this an accident or was this on purpose. The meaning of the story Scat is there is always good in everyone. First, duane eats Mrs. Starches NO 2 pencil straight from her hand. Right now Mrs. Starch and duane aren’t getting along and don't want to be together. Later in the book Scat Nick and Marta find out that Duane was getting too dered by Mrs. Starch. Mrs. was doing this because when duane was dressed sloppily he looks more like a criminal that if he is dressed neat. Last, duane helps Mrs. Starch out of the woods when she was shot
