(Isaiah 64:6, Romans 3:10) To put it bluntly, we have nothing to offer God; even our best of intentions are tarnished by sin’s nasty influence. So what is a person to do? The wonderful answer is that God has already taken care of that. He has given us His Holy Spirit which will enable us to fulfill the law of love, overcome the flesh, and produce fruit for God’s glory. “The contrast between works and fruit is important. A machine in a factory works and turns out a product, but it could never manufacture fruit. Fruit must grow out of life, and in the case of the believer, it is the life of the Spirit.” (Wiersbe, pg 134) Both Romans and Galatians give a wonderful account of the benefits of the Holy Spirit in the Christian’s life.
