“It is by doing what we think we cannot do and overcoming what we think we cannot overcome that we realize just how strong we really are.”-Anonymous. This quote reminds me of Há in “Inside Out & Back Again” by Thanhha Lai and Zlata from “Zlata’s Diary” by Zlata Filipovic. Há and Zlata are both wartime children who have struggled and fought through terrible times. Although they came from different places and have different stories, they share many of the same struggles along with many accomplishments. During their terrible times in war, they both realized how strong they really are and they realized that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Há learned to adapt to life in Alabama and she realized that she is strong and she doesn’t deserve to be pushed around and bullied by other people. Also, Há had to accept and learn that her father was truly dead. On pg. 396 it says, “Finally she appears, looks at each of us. Your father is truly gone.” Há was able to get through it and accept that her dad wasn’t coming back, she was strong and didn’t let this get her down too much. She learned that even though things may seem terrible, they just might be a whole strange kind of wonderful in

On pg. 360 it says, “The darkness is behind us; now we’re together, we’re moving into the light” This quote definitely shows there was light and happiness at the end of the dark tunnel for Zlata. She was brave throughout the war and she put up with a lot to get where she is now. She fought hard and and with all of her bravery came success. She learned what it feels like to be trapped In a terrible time of war but she became wiser and stronger because of it I think that the quote, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” -Friedrich Nietzsche definitely applies to Zlata's story and her

One, having experienced a devastating situation, such as war, might relate to the idea that “it’s no good at all to see yourself and not recognize your face. Out on my own, it’s such a scary place” (Efron). Throughout life there are times when we no longer recognize ourselves. One’s identity is more than just physical appearance. In Night by Elie Wiesel, we can see that war not only physically changes a person, but it also shakes a person’s faith, weakens relationships, and loosens his morals; he no longer remembers who he is, who he loves, or in what he believes—he only focuses on survival.…

In the words of Gail Devers, “Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can't stay down. We can’t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we didn’t think we could be that strong.” In the nonfictional, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie Zamperini, being the clever man he is, demonstrates Dever’s words though the 36’ Olympics, a treacherous trek in the Pacific, and in many Japanese POW camps. In his early days in Berlin, Louie already began expressing his mischievous cleverness.…

The information presented in the video I just watched about Wilma Rudolph supports the quote I selected in many ways. For example when Wilma was young she had a illness that didn't allow her to walk, then one day she could. That supports the claim because she had the struggle of not walking and having to live with that and she triumphed in the end because she could walk again. According to the video Wilma had learned to walk at such a late age, but still played basketball and led her team to victory.…

During difficult, trying times some people feel helpless and give up way too easily. Others somehow find enough strength to find solutions to their problems. Whether giving up is done consciously or unconsciously, one thing for sure is that the outcomes are two immensely distinct scenarios. A door of hope is permanently shut when the will to try is lost. On the other hand, when we hold on a bit longer and have that small push—a voice that says, “keep going,” the possibilities are endless.…

In the twenty-second century as set in Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, children are recruited for Battle School. They suffer through unimaginable trials for children of their age and still survive. This unlikely feat is explained by Diane Coutu in her article “How Resilience Works,” a study of resilience in modern people and businesses, in which she discusses the three key characteristics of resilience that help people through hardship. In Ender’s Game, Orson Scott Card displays children’s innate, remarkable ability to recover from trauma and endure hardships. In both texts, resilience is presented as a multifaceted quality that allows people to survive suffering and trauma unbroken.…

Having courage is important to humans in everyday life. Courage helps humans through periods of inevitable difficulties during one’s life, requiring one to stand firmly and face challenges head on. In return, this nurtures and builds personal morality. W.H. Auden’s poem, “There Will Be No Peace”, exemplifies this, demonstrating that acts of strength in the face of pain or obstacles encourage the growth of personal integrity. Being strong and working through times of struggle is crucial to developing personal integrity.…
