The Great Gatsby and Winter dreams, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, reveal that love can be both wonderful and unsatisfying. These novels show that love isn’t always what you think it’s going to be. Winter Dreams is almost like a outline of The Great Gatsby. The characters in both novels share common characteristics. Also, the themes are similar to each other. In The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby fell in love with Daisy. Daisy and Gatsby were madly in love with each other. Unfortunately, Gatsby has to leave Daisy and go to the war. The time that Gatsby was gone he thought when he got back from the war, Daisy would be waiting on him. When Gatsby gets back home from the war, he realizes that Daisy is married and she does love her husband. Sadly, shortly after all that Gatsby loses his life due to lots of confusion caused mostly caused by daisy and her husband Tom. After Gatsby had left for the war, she was left alone. Daisy was confused and didn’t know who she really loved. This caused daisy to meet and fall in love with another man, Tom Buchanan. Not too long after that, Daisy and Tom married. This left Gatsby heartbroken, just like Dexter. Judy was a player and didn’t settle down for a while. She hopped around from man to man trying to find the one with the most money, the one who could provide for her the most. During the time that Judy and Dexter were together she realized that he didn’t have as much wealth as she was looking for, so unfortunately she left him. For some time, this left Dexter heartbroken. One common theme in Winter Dreams and The Great Gatsby is wealth and money. In these two novels, money makes the world go around. In Winter Dreams, if you wanted anything to do with Judy Jones, you had to have a great deal of money. Especially if you wanted to marry Judy Jones, you had to be the richest of rich.
