The stories “ Waters of Gold” retold by Lawrence Yep and “Ashputtle” by the Brothers Grimm, share the recurring theme of: don’t judge a book by its cover. The homeless man in Waters of Gold was was judged by everyone, as a beggar. This beggar was only asking for water and was nice. Since Auntie Lily didn’t think of him as a beggar she was rewarded with gold. The story Ashputtle she is judged by everyone as dirty. Then she got very nice clothes thus, she was so beautiful people didn’t even think it was her. These two stories share the same recurring theme of don’t judge a book by its cover.
